INTO OSU Conversant Program

Do you want to practice your English and meet new people?

Join our Cultural Ambassador Conversant Program (CACP)! If you are in the U.S. or in your home country, CACP is a great way to meet other OSU students and Corvallis community members.

What can you expect?

  • We will introduce you to an English-speaking OSU student or Corvallis community member. 
  • You will meet with your partner(s) for one hour every wek until Week 9 of the term.
  • You will practice your English, meet new people, learn more about culture in the U.S., and have a new experience!

When can I sign up for CACP?

  • Sign-Ups for spring term 2022 are open NOW!
  • Sign-Ups for spring term 2022 close at midnight on Sunday, April 10th.

How can you sign up to participate in CACP?

  • Complete the Google Form on this website. 

When do I receive the contact information for my CACP partner(s)?

  • For Spring 2022, please check your OSU email (ONID) on Tuesday, April 12th.

Question: Who can participate in CACP?

  • Answer: Oregon State University international students.

Question: Can I volunteer as a conversation partner if I am an international student? 

  • Answer: We evaluate this situation on a case-by-case basis. If English is not your first language, but you believe that your English level is fluent and your accent is clear enough to be an example for English-learning students, please contact the Student Engagement Coordinator to discuss options ([email protected]).

Question: What if my partner doesn't respond to my emails or messages? 

  • Answer: Please contact the Student Engagement Coordinator ([email protected]) so that she can reach out to the student directly.

Spring Term 2022 Trips

WEEK 1: TRIP TO THE OREGON ZOO

Saturday, April 2nd from 10:00am-6:00pm

  • Details: The Oregon Zoo is located in Portland and is the perfect place to explore different types of animals and environments. Check out the zoo's website here. This event is $55, which includes roundtrip transportation and entrance into the zoo. You will receive a payment link after you sign up.

WEEK 2: TRIP TO THE OREGON COAST

Saturday, April 8th from 10:00am-6:00pm 

  • Details: The Oregon Coast is a beautiful place... come explore it during whale watching season! We will first drive to Depot Bay for some whale watching options from the coastline. Then we will drive to Newport, which is a charming town on the coast with restaurants, shops, and great views of the Pacific Ocean. This event is $25, which includes roundtrip transportation. You will receive a payment link after you sign up.

WEEK 3: TRIP TO OREGON TULIP FESTIVAL

Saturday, April 16th from 1:00pm-7:00pm 

  • Details: The Oregon Tulip Festival is a world renowned event that mirrors similar festivals in The Netherlands. The photos from this event are incredible... come take your own photos! This event is $40, which includes roundtrip transportation and entrance into the event. You will receive a payment link after you sign up.

WEEK 4: SHOPPING TRIP TO WOODBURN OUTLET MALL

Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00am-5:00pm

  • Details: Come shopping at the Woodburn Outlet Mall and buy what you need at a discounted price without any sales tax (thanks, Oregon!). This event is $20, which includes roundtrip transportation. You will receive a payment link after you sign up.

WEEK 7: TRIP TO MULTNOMAH FALLS

Saturday, May 14th from 10:00am-7:30pm

  • Details: Come see this famous Oregon attraction! There are hiking options available around the waterfall. After we will go to McMenamins Edgefield, which has restaurants, a winery, shopping options, and lots of different places to explore! This event is $30, which includes roundtrip transportation. You will receive a payment link after you sign up.

WEEK 9: HIKE BALD HILL

Saturday, May 28th from 1:00pm-5:00pm 

  • Details: Come get outside and hike this beautiful spot close to "home" (campus). Please wear sneakers and appropriate clothing. The route is approximately 7 kilometers roundtrip. This event is $5, which includes roundtrip transportation and a snack to eat at the top. You will receive a payment link after you sign up.

Question: How do I see more information about the trip? 

  • Please visit our INTO OSU Events website to see details about the trip, including when to meet, where to meet, what to bring, and what the cost of the trip is. 

 

Question: How do I sign up for a trip? 

  • You must sign up for the trip before you attend. You can find the sign up form for each trip on the INTO OSU Events website
  • Important: you are not confirmed on the trip until you pay for the trip! 

 

Question: How do I pay for a trip? 

  • After you sign up for the trip you will receive an email from the Student Engagement Coordinator with the link to pay. 

 

Question: What does my trip fee cover?

  • Typically, the trip fee covers roundtrip transportation, the event entrance fee or the activity fee, and the staff members that accompany students.

 

Question: Where is the meeting location for trips?

  • Students will be picked up and dropped off at the ILLC, unless otherwised specified in the trip details. Typically we meet outside the ILLC across from Arnold Dining center.  

 

Question: If I decide not to come after signing up, can I get a refund?

  • Unfortunately, INTO OSU has a no-refund policy. 

 

Question: Can my friends come with me on a trip? 

  • Yes! All Oregon State University students are welcome to sign up for our trips and activities; it's not limited to only INTO OSU students. 
  • If your friends want to come, they need to sign up on the INTO OSU Events website and also pay.
