How to use a taxi

  1. Simply call the taxi company and inform them where you are located.
    • "Hello, could I please be picked up on the corner of 7th & Adams?"
  2. They will ask where you are headed.
    • If you are heading to a known store / business, you can just tell the name of it. Example: "Fred Meyer"
    • Otherwise, just let them know the street names.
  3. They will then give you an estimate of how long it will take to pick you up.

Note: most taxi companies do take "reservations" as well and will pick you up at a specified future date and time.

Notes on taxi services

  • Most taxi services will charge a flat, base rate on top of a mileage charge.
    • For example, even if your total trip was under $5, the taxi may still have to charge you $5.
  • On average, taxi companies charge ~$2.50 per mile.
  • If your taxi has to wait for you for any reason, they may charge a wait time rate as well.
    • For example, if you want to go to a store and ask them to wait.
    • On average, taxi companies charge $0.50 a minute.
  • Be prepared to wait 10 to 20 minutes before a taxi picks you up.
    • Note that the wait can be longer depending on traffic (especially on game days).
    • If the wait is too long, feel free to say that you will try another company and call back if needed.
