Please use the guidelies to help you be successful in your journey to become a parent.

   Medical Appointments

Please try to make medical appointments outside of class time. Look at the syllabus for each of your classes and locate inportant dates such as test days. Please try to avoid making appointments during those times. This will give you the best chance of passing your classes that term.

    Communication with Your Teachers

Talk to your teachers about how much class you will miss and when you will be absent. If your teachers know about your situation, they can help you plan and complete your work.

  Absences and Make-up Work

Your absences will be excused for as long as your doctor says it is necesarry. Your teachers will work with you to make-up participation points, in-class work, quizzes, or tests.

  Your Spouse

Your spouse may need to go to medical appointments with you. Spouses who are also students should also speak to their teachers if they plan to miss class because of an appointment. Their absences will also be excused if they have a doctor's note, and their teachers will give them time to make-up participation points, in-class work, quizzes or tests missed.

Child Care in the U.S.

Child care is when children are supervised and cared for by a person other than a parent or caregiver. If you plan to have a child while you study at OSU, or if you already have a child, please read this page carefully and contact the Senior Coordinator for Care and Conduct for any further assistance.

LEAVING YOUR CHILD HOME ALONE

Under the Oregon State Laws, the minimum age at which children may be left at home alone is 10 years old. If you leave your children who are under 10 years old alone, you can get arrested. For more information, please check out the Leaving Your Child Home Alone website.

OTHER CHILD CARE LAWS

  Car Safety Seats

When riding in a car, children need to be in an approved safety seat or booster seat until they are 4'9" tall (approx. 150 cm) or 8 years old. It's dangerous and illegal for a child to ride in a car without a safety seat. Watch this video and learn more about a car safety seat for your child.

FINDING CHILD CARE

There are different types of child care, such as babysitters/nannies, preschool, and child care centers.

Babysitters/nannies are the one who comes to your home and look after your child.

Preschool is a school for children usually under 5 years old who are too young for kindergarten.

Child care center is a nursery to supervise children during the day.

How can I find a day care center for my children?

It can be difficult and expensive to find space in a child care center in Corvallis. Many centers are full and have a waiting list of 6 months to 1 year. You can find a list of local child care centers, preschools, and community activities for children by accessing the Family Resource Center website. For child care centers, it's best to call them early to get on their waiting lists.
